Kelpie Horse - PDF Cross Stitch Pattern
Kelpie Horse - PDF Cross Stitch Pattern
Have you heard the legend of the Kelpie, a water horse story from Scotland? A cryptid/mythical creature told in stories from Scotland. A kelpie is a shape-changing aquatic spirit of Scottish legend. Kelpies are said to haunt rivers and streams, usually in the shape of a horse. But beware…these are malevolent spirits! The kelpie may appear as a tame pony beside a river. It takes on a human form to lure its victims into the water, devour them, and throw the entrails to the water's edge.
I picture the Kelpie to have seaweed like hair and skull like head similar to the Mari Lwyd. I depicted it running along the water with water spraying from its hooves and hair and one of its victims laying the water nearby.
I have included a 'Hair Help" guide to show you the individual strands of hair in case you want to change the colors (like use variegated!). It also just helped me to make sense of the mass of tangles.
